Strategy over tactics. Outcomes over optics.

A letter from the founder

I started Hyperion Insights because professional services firms deserved a marketing partner who actually understood their work. Not a generalist agency running the same playbook on every client, swapping out the logos and the call-to-action colors and calling it a strategy. A real partner. One that knows the difference between a contingency-fee personal injury practice and a transactional M&A boutique without having to ask.

Fifteen-plus years inside this industry made me allergic to the alternative. The recurring story is depressingly similar: a beautifully art-directed pitch deck, a content calendar identical to the one being run for a firm in a totally different vertical, dashboards that all point up and to the right — and then, six months in, a quiet call from the partner asking whether anything is actually working. The deck was the product. The strategy was an afterthought. The firm was someone else’s template.

The firms I worked with — and watched waste real money — kept making the same three mistakes. They chased rankings instead of revenue. They treated SEO as a vendor checkbox rather than the highest-leverage growth lever they had. And they hired the agency with the slickest pitch deck instead of the one that could actually tell a personal injury attorney from a corporate transactional lawyer, or a pediatric dentist from a cosmetic practice, or a fee-only RIA from a broker-dealer. The vocabulary alone should be a filter. It almost never is.

Hyperion exists to do the opposite of all three. We start every engagement with sector-specific research — not a deck of past wins from a different industry. We track revenue attribution from the first month, because rankings without signed retainers are a vanity metric and any agency that cannot show you the dollar value of last month’s organic traffic is selling you a hobby. And we refuse to take on more than three firms per sector. The moment we are quietly pitching two competitors against each other, we have stopped being useful to either of them, and our value to the rest of our roster has gone with it.

We also structure for partnerships that compound. Three, five, seven years. Because SEO does not pay back inside a quarter, and any honest practitioner will tell you the same. The flywheel does not start spinning until month four at the earliest. The compounding does not become obvious until year two. So we decline work that smells like a one-shot project, and the clients we keep are the ones we will still be working with in 2030 — partners deep enough into the relationship that we can argue about strategy without anyone losing face.

That is most of what makes us different. The rest is execution. A small team of strategists, writers, designers, and producers who have spent careers inside regulated, trust-driven industries — not generalists who learned the legal vertical from a webinar last quarter. People who can read a complaint, who understand what a HIPAA-compliant intake form looks like, who know that a wealth manager pitching DOL fiduciary content cannot just rip a draft from a broker-dealer’s blog. People who treat your firm like the only one on their roster, because for the hours they are working on it, it is.

If any of that sounds like the partner you have been looking for, the next step is the simplest one. A 30-minute call. No pitch deck, no SDR, no follow-up sequence with three increasingly desperate touchpoints. Just an honest read on whether Hyperion can help your firm — and if the answer is no, I will tell you who I think can. Set up the call here.

Our principles

Five things we believe — and that everything we do flows from.

01

Strategy before tactics

We don't sell hours or deliverables. We sell a strategy that produces revenue. The tactics — SEO, content, video, web — are just the operating system that runs underneath it.

02

Revenue, not rankings

Position #1 for “best lawyer near me” means nothing if it doesn't produce signed retainers. We track revenue attribution from the first month and reorganize the work around what actually moves the line.

03

Sector-specific, not template

A pediatric dentistry practice and a M&A boutique have nothing in common. We won't apply the same playbook to both. Every Hyperion engagement starts with sector-specific research, not a deck of past wins.

04

Long partnerships, not projects

SEO compounds over years, not quarters. We turn down work that smells like a one-shot project. The clients we keep are the ones we'll still be working with three years from now.

05

Honest reporting, even when it's unflattering

If a campaign isn't working, we say so on the next call. If a competitor is gaining ground, we tell you before you find out yourself. Spin is the fastest way to lose trust.

Fifteen years, one focus

How Ian got here.

  1. Education

    MBA, marketing strategy focus

Graduate work centered on positioning and the empirical foundations of how search behavior actually drives revenue.

  2. Agency leadership

Senior agency roles serving professional services firms

Led legal, dental, and healthcare accounts at growth-stage agencies. Watched the gap between templated agency work and what regulated firms actually needed.

  3. In-house

Marketing leadership inside a professional services group

Built and ran the in-house playbook Hyperion now runs externally. Technical SEO, content engine, local market expansion — all of it under the same roof as the practice.

  4. Independent

Consulting across legal, healthcare, dental, and wealth

Worked directly with founder-led firms in regulated verticals. Stopped pretending the standard agency model was the only way to deliver this work.

  5. Founded Hyperion Insights

    Hyperion Insights

Stood up the firm with the partner roster I had been wanting to work with for a decade — and operating principles to match.

  6. Today

Still personally on every Hyperion engagement. The conversation starts with me and stays with me.

The firm

Boutique by design.

Hyperion Insights is a small team of strategists, writers, designers, and producers based in Scottsdale, Arizona. We cap our roster intentionally — quality of attention is our product, and the moment we can’t give it, we lose what makes us valuable.
